PM Modi condoles demise of renowned cardiologist MS Valiathan

New Delhi [India], July 19 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences on the demise of renowned cardiologist MS Valiathan on Friday.
In a post on X, PM Modi said that he was saddened by the passing away of MS Valiathan, a pioneer in the field of healthcare and medical research.
"His contributions have left an indelible mark and benefited countless people. He will be particularly remembered for cost-effective and top-quality innovations," the Prime Minister said in the post.
"He was also at the forefront of improving the medical education sector in India. My thoughts are with his family and countless admirers. Om Shanti," the post further mentioned.
Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also offered condolences on Valiathan's demise.
"Deeply anguished by the passing of Dr. MS Valiathan. He will be forever remembered for his outstanding contributions to healthcare and medical research," Mandaviya said in a post on X.
Valiathan, 90, passed away on Wednesday night at Manipal in Karnataka. He pioneered biomedical research in the country and is credited with the development of artificial heart valves, blood bags, oxygenerators, vascular grafts, etc.
He served as Professor of Cardiac Surgery at the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology in Thiruvananthapuram for 20 years. He led a group which developed a tilting disc heart valve and other cardiovascular devices which are commercially produced.
Valiathan was conferred with many national and international honours, including the prestigious "Padma Bhushan".
