Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], August 19 : Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh said on Monday that those found guilty in the rape and murder of a Kolkata woman doctor should be hanged. However, he criticised political parties, including Ram (BJP) and the Left for attempting to redirect it in another direction for their benefit.
Speaking at a press conference, Ghosh said, "An unfortunate incident has happened, the culprit must be hanged, but this does not mean that Ram, the Left and some evil forces together turn it in another direction. They could not win through votes but we are protesting against the drama they are doing."
"We are clearly saying that there should be a death penalty. We want a solution, there must be punishment in the case," Ghosh added.
The rape and murder of the trainee doctor have sparked massive outrage and protests across various sectors, leading the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognisance. A bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud will hear the case on August 20.

On August 14, the protest site and hospital campus at RG Kar were vandalised by a mob, leading to police intervention.
