New Delhi, November 02 (ANI): Dedicated Freight Corridor is bringing about a paradigm shift in the Indian Railways. As a result of this, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav called DFCCIL the “Jewel of Indian Railways” at the recently organized Foundation Day celebrations of DFCCIL in Delhi. DFC has not only created new ways of working, new ways of project execution, but also set new benchmarks about how Indian Railways is to evolve in the future. Chairman and CEO of Railway board VK Tripathi said, “About 56 per cent of DFC network is complete and has been made operational. Last month, the honourable Prime Minister dedicated the Palanpur-Mehsana line of western DFC to the nation. This line is of critical importance as ports of Gujarat are now connected with WDFC, giving ports dedicated track access of around 700 km up to Rewari.” Along with this, N Srinivas, Director, Operations and BD, said, “DFC is becoming the instrument in bringing out cheap transportation. The overall cost function will become so advantageous that individual customers will be benefited because of the wider reach.” Freight trains can run at a speed of 100 kmph on various sections of the freight corridor opened for rail operation. Due to this, the freight traffic is increasing manifold while the logistics cost is also coming down.
