Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], July 17 : Following Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's farm loan waiver announcement, BJP leader NV Subhash accused the Congress of misleading farmers with false promises.
Subhash accused the party of deceiving the people by taking their votes and then cheating them later on.
"This is Congress' way of cheating the people, especially the farmers. Last year in September, there was a declaration by the Congress in Telangana where they said Rs 15000 will be given to every farmer for investment and the loans which have been taken by the farmers will be waived off".
Subhash criticized the Congress, alleging that they had misled farmers with lofty promises during the lead-up to elections.
"On the eve of elections in Telangana, Revanth Reddy said don't pay the interest, or the principal amount because we are going to come to power but, he said when he will be the Chief Minister, the first sign will be waiving off the loans. Seven months over, on one condition or other, the Congress is cheating farmers where 70 lakh farmers have taken loans. Now, in the government order which has been released, it says that only 11.5 lakh farmers will be given upto 1 lakh rupees," Subhash said.
"After coming to power, the Congress is as usual deceiving the people. They have taken the votes of the Congress party and now they are cheating. After 15th of August, the Kisan Morcha of BJP will be making a big agitation," he added.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy made it clear on Tuesday that the farm loan waiver scheme of up to Rs 2 lakh will apply to every farmer family possessing a land passbook.
According to an official release, CM Reddy shared details about implementing the loan waiver scheme at the Collectors Conference held at the Secretariat today (Tuesday).
He said that the ration card is being used only for family identification. The total number of ration cards in the state is 90 lakh, while the number of farmer accounts with bank loans is only 70 lakh.
CM Reddy further clarified that 6.36 lakh farmers in the state who do not possess ration cards and took farm loans are also eligible for the farm loan waiver benefit.
CM Reddy announced that loan waiver funds of up to Rs 1 lakh will be deposited in the farmers' accounts at 4 pm on July 18. He suggested organizing a gathering of farm loan waiver scheme beneficiaries at Rythu Vedikas. Ministers, MLAs, and other public representatives of the respective districts should attend and share the happiness with the farmers.
