"Gangs run from jail, not governments": BJP MP Manoj Tiwari attacks AAP

New Delhi [India], March 24 : Launching a scathing attack on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over his decision to run the government from ED custody, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said on Sunday gangs are run from jail, not governments.
The BJP has been demanding that Kejriwal relinquish the chief minister's post after his arrest in connection with the liquor policy case. However, the AAP has maintained that he will run the government from ED custody.
The BJP MP took a jibe at the AAP over the arrest of the Delhi CM in connection with the excise policy case, saying his story could be titled 'Ek Safar Swaraj Se Sharab Tak' (A journey from autonomy to liquor).
"If you think about the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal, you will think of a story with the title 'Ek safar swaraj se sharab tak'. The only thing Arvind Kejriwal worries about is how soon he can return to his 'Rajmahal' (palace)," the BJP MP said.
Opening a new front against the chief minister's wife, Sunita Kejriwal, who delivered Kejriwal's message on Saturday, the BJP leader said, "Sunita Kejriwal gave a televised address yesterday during which she was seen sitting on the CM's chair. She didn't feel any shame about taking the seat of the holder of one of Delhi's top public offices. The general sense is that the central agencies such as the ED and CBI, are doing good work. Only a few people, who are corrupt, are badmouthing our independent agencies."
Accusing the previous Congress-led central government of not vesting any power in the central agencies before 2014, the BJP leader said the grand old party kept the agencies toothless as they were busy encouraging and patronising corruption across the party.
"Before 2014, ED and CBI didn't work like this. Before 2014, the Congress government didn't give any power to the agencies as they had to protect corruption in the party. After 2014, the government changed. Narendra Modi has since set a new record when it comes to probity in public life. Be it any agency, they have been given a free hand to go after the corrupt," he said.
"Today, the ones who are talking about running the government from jail must know that the gangs are run from jail, not governments," Tiwari added.
