Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 27 : The ten-day monsoon session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly began on Tuesday, marked by a ceremonial start as Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu arrived at the Vidhan Sabha early in the morning.
Upon his arrival, the Chief Minister was accorded a guard of honour, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshvardhan Chauhan warmly welcomed him to the Assembly premises.
Ahead of the session, the Congress Legislature Party convened a meeting, led by Congress State President Pratibha Singh. The meeting saw the participation of several prominent Congress leaders, aiming to align their strategies and objectives for the upcoming discussions in the Assembly.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu highlighted the significance of the extended monsoon session, stating, "This is the first time a session of this length is being held in the state Assembly. We have taken this decision to ensure that issues of public interest are thoroughly discussed."
The Chief Minister emphasized that the longer session would provide ample opportunity for both the ruling party and the opposition to engage in meaningful debate and deliberation.
The Chief Minister also expressed his disappointment over the absence of opposition members from the all-party meeting.
"The opposition can engage in politics as much as they like, but I question why they chose not to attend the all-party meeting. They will have to answer for this absence, and it is certainly not the right approach," he remarked, urging the opposition to participate actively in the session.
Sukhu further appealed to all members for a constructive discussion on the issues facing the state. He reiterated the importance of collaborative efforts to address public concerns and drive positive outcomes for the people of Himachal Pradesh.
"I urge the opposition to come forward with constructive criticism and meaningful suggestions so that we can collectively work towards the welfare of the state," he added.
The session is expected to cover a range of topics, including economic challenges, social issues, and developmental agendas, with a focus on ensuring that the concerns of the people of Himachal Pradesh are addressed comprehensively.
