"Three dead bodies of miscreants found...": Manipur IGP Intelligence K Kabib

Imphal (Manipur) [India], September 7 : Manipur Inspector General of Police, Intelligence, K Kabib on Saturday said that three dead bodies of the miscreants were found after the armed miscreants engaged in a heavy exchange of fire in Nungchappi village under Jiribham district on Saturday.
"Today morning, in two combing operations, a good number of sophisticated arms and ammunition, explosives, and grenades were recovered. Combing operations are aimed at preventing further attacks from the suspected areas. A total of nine sophisticated arms, 21 different types of ammunition, 21 explosives, grenades and a wireless set were recovered," Kabib said, addressing a press conference.
He further said that a 63-year-old civilian was killed following the attack by suspected Kuki militants in Jiribham, adding that three dead bodies of the miscreants were also found.
"Today, early morning, suspected Kuki militants attacked Nungchappi village under Jiribham district incident in which one 63-year-old civilian was killed. The armed miscreants continued the firing and forwarding near Rashidpur village. The volunteers of the village confronted and there was an exchange of fire. SP Jiribham and his team rushed to the spot...retaliated and controlled the firing. The situation was brought under control. There was a report of one Bachaspatimayum Lakhikanta Sharma, 41-year-old of Dibong Khunou Jiribham. Later, while searching the general area where the firing took place, three dead bodies of the miscreants were found. The details of the miscreants are yet to be ascertained," he added.
He further said that the Manipur Police are reviewing the security situation and deployment very closely with the help of other forces.
"The senior officers are deployed on the ground. Our ADG and IG are deployed on the ground in Bishnupur, Jiribham and Imphal. An anti-drone system is deployed. State police are in the process of purchasing more anti-drone systems and anti-drone guns. An army chopper is also patrolling. We have activated our social media monitoring cell to check the instigators. We have found that there are some instigators who play with the emotions of the public... and create lawlessness. We are identifying them and we are warning that they will be identified under relevant sections and will be booked if necessary. Strict actions of booking them under scheduled acts and handing them over to central agencies will also be taken," he added.
"The combing operations on both sides, hill and valley, are intensified, focussing on the long-range rockets and...drones... The combing operations will cover a minimum of 3-5 km... The 'nakas' are also being strengthened," he said.
Earlier, the district magistrate issued prohibitory orders in the area, restricting assembly of more than five people and carrying of arms and ammunition.
"Whereas, such disturbances may result in serious breach of peace, public tranquility and imminent danger to human life and properties. Now, therefore, I, Krishna Kumar, IAS, District Magistrate, Jiribam, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me under sub-section 1 of Section 163 of BNSS, 2023, do hereby prohibit: Assembly of 05(five) or more persons which is likely to turn unlawful and the movement of any person outside their respective residences," the notice read.
Earlier, Manipur Police confirmed that Kuki militants deployed long-range rockets among the civilian population in two locations, killing a 78-year-old man identified as RK Rabei, and injuring six others in Bishnupur. "Police teams and additional security forces have been rushed in to conduct combing operations in the hill ranges adjoining the area," Manipur police said in a post on X.
The police also mentioned that three bunkers were destroyed due to the attack. "Two bunkers at Mualsang village and one bunker at Laika Mualsau village of Churachandpur were destroyed", confirmed Manipur police in the post.
