119 Infantry Battalion Assam conducts Unity Run 2023

Shillong (Meghalaya) [India] August 19 : The 119 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Arm ) Assam and the localities of Lawsohtun and Lumshatsngi-Kench's Trace on Saturday came together and held a 'Unity Run 2023' in a show of solidarity, a statement issued here informed.
The event, aimed at fostering stronger ties and mutual respect, saw participation by children as young as 4 to seasoned veterans aged 75, embracing the spirit of togetherness.
The Unity Run was not just a race but a celebration of unity, resilience, and community. With event distances ranging from a friendly 2.5 km, 5 km for leisurely walkers, to the more challenging 10 km for avid runners, there was something for everyone, the statement added.
As families, friends, and neighbours cheered on the sidelines, the sight of children running alongside army personnel sent a powerful message of unity and shared purpose.
The mingling of camouflage with everyday wear, the blending of laughter and chants, underscored the essence of the event: building bridges of understanding.
Major CP Marak, IFS (Retd), ex-Principal CCF & HoFF (Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force) Meghalaya said, "It's heartwarming to see the community come out and participate with such strong spirits, as we say in the IFS "A strong mind resides in a healthy body". We must focus on physical & mental fitness and say no to drugs & ill habits".
Colonel SK Tripathi, Commanding Officer 119 Inf Bn (TA) Assam echoed, "It's essential for our young ones to see the army as approachable, as friends. Today, they've not only seen it, but they've also run alongside them."
Apart from the races, there were also booths set up to provide refreshments, share stories, and engage in friendly banter. In a world that often feels divided, events like the Unity Run remind us of the strength that lies in unity and the ties that bind us together, it added.
As participants left with their medals, certificates, and a sense of accomplishment, the city left with a renewed sense of community, understanding, and, above all, unity.
