13 people die in Himachal in 24 hours due to rains; water enters new OPD area of IGMC Hospital in Shimla

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 24 : Heavy rains on Wednesday led to 13 deaths in Himachal Pradesh in 24 hours with the death toll mounting to 361 since June 24 in the state as per data available with the state disaster management officials.
Rains also led to water logging in the new OPD block of Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla.
“I had come for the medical examination, the floor had rain water. The roads are damaged, landslides and trees are uprooted in the region and we are facing problems,” said Tripta Chauhan, a local resident.
Senior citizens also faced troubles due to the water logging in various areas.
Madan Singh, a patient, said that water in the hospital area caused problems but was later cleared by the staff.
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert till tomorrow and an orange alert for the next 48 hours in the state.
State disaster management authorities said 40 people are missing in the state and 342 had been injured due to the monsoon fury.
Officials said 2,237 hoses have been fully damaged and 9,924 house have been damaged partially. They said 300 shops and 4783 cow sheds have been damaged.
Sandeep Kumar Sharma, senior scientist, IMD Himachal Pradesh, said that during past 24 hours Mandi, Kangra, Bilaspur, Shimla, Una Hamirpur and Mandi recorded heavy to heavy rainfall.
“In 25 stations, heavy rainfall was recorded, the rain is continued in the entire state. Shimla city recorded 130 mm rain till morning and in an hour between 10am to 11 am it recorded 60 mm.,” he said.
The authorities had also issued flash flood and landslide warnings for Shimla, Solan, Mandi, Sirmaur and Kullu districts.
