New Delhi [India], August 9 : Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Harbhajan Singh has requested Union Health Minister JP Nadda to convert BBMP Hospital into PGI or AIIMS Hospital.
The cricketer-turned-politician further said that the Union Health Minister assured him that the government would ramp up health facilities there.
Speaking to ANI, the former Indian cricketer said, "I had a request that I placed before JP Nadda. There is a 100-bed BBMB hospital at Talwara in Punjab. About 2500 quarters have been built for employees".
"However, its condition is deteriorating day by day. I want it to be upgraded or converted into PGI Satellite or AIIMS hospital, " the AAP MP said.
Singh who met the Union Health Minister on Thursday said that the "people of Punjab rush towards Delhi or Chandigarh (for treatment). A lot of people die halfway before reaching there. At least they should have a facility near their city where they can get treatment. Facilities need to be upgraded."
He further said that there is a need for machinery and good doctors. "I have made this request. I hope it will be considered. It is located on the border of Punjab. It can cater to the three States including neighbouring states of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir."
He added, "This matter is connected with humanity. He assured me that the government will start the work on it."
