New Delhi [India], September 11 : Following Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandh's recent remark during his US visit which sparked a row, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that Congress leader is defaming India on foreign soil in 'absolutely shameful manner'.
Piyush Goyal questioned Gandhi's reasoning over his statements and launched a scathing attack on him.
"Do you think they are not anti-national? Can anybody in his right mind justify or endorse the deplorable statements? The absolutely shameful manner in which India and every Indian is being defamed on foreign soil by a senior leader of the Congress, Rahul Gandhi," Goyal said.
Goyal accused Congress of propagating 'well-thought agenda' to 'attack' PM Modi.
"It is a well-thought agenda of the Congress party. I think it is by deliberate choice that Rahul Gandhi is making these statements because the Congress party in its desire to attack PM Modi and this third term that the people of India have given to PM Modi," Goyal said.
Goyal said that Congress is 'frustrated' and cannot differentiate between a political adversary and the nation.
"They are so frustrated that in their frustration they cannot differentiate between a political adversary and the nation. I have also been in the opposition for many years. Whenever we were on foreign soil, we always spoke good about India. We were proud of our nation," he said.
He further described Rahul Gandhi's actions during the visit as 'shameful' and asked him to apologise.
"It is shameful the way he meets anti-national people. Rahul Gandhi should apologize not only to the country but to every single citizen of India who has felt hurt," he said.
Earlier today, BJP's Giriaj Singh accused Gandhi of supporting Umar Khalid, who is arrested under UAPA over his alleged role in Delhi riots of 2020, and Ilahn Omar, a US lawmaker known for her critical stance on India.
"When Rahul Gandhi is in the country, even then he is with the anti-national forces be it Umar Khalid or when in America, be it Ilhan Omar. All those present in his press conference used an anti-India toolkit," Singh said.
The heat on Rahul Gandhi came after he made certain statements in the US while speaking to the Indian diaspora
Gandhi, who arrived in Dallas in September 8, also interacted with students and teachers at the University of Texas.
