Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], July 13 : Advocate Deepak Chouhan, representing the SpiceJet Airlines employee who allegedly slapped the Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at Jaipur Airport in Rajasthan, has stated that his client was 'sexually harassed' by the police personnel, which led to her slapping him.
A viral video showed a female SpiceJet employee slapping CISF ASI Giriraj Prasad at Jaipur Airport on Thursday, following a heated argument between the two.
In a conversation with ANI on Friday, Advocate Deepak Chouhan said, "The SpiceJet employee has been arrested. She was sexually harassed by the CISF ASI at Jaipur Airport. Abusive words were used against her, which caused her to lose her cool and slap the CISF officer. This was her natural response to the incident."
The advocate further emphasized that the female employee had not displayed such behaviour in the past.
"In court FIR, we have mentioned that the woman had not displayed such behaviour in the past. Had this been her usual behavior, such incidents would have come to light earlier. However, this is a matter of investigation," said Advocate Chouhan.
The SpiceJet employee has been arrested by the police following a complaint by CISF ASI Giriraj Prasad, who alleged that she slapped him after an argument over the security screening at Jaipur Airport.
According to the report provided by ASI Prasad, the crew member reached the airport at 4 in the morning. During this time, he was also on duty at the airport. He said that the crew member tried to enter without going through a security check, and he stopped her, asking her to undergo screening.
The crew member cited the absence of female staff and refused to be screened. When she cited the absence of female staff, Giriraj contacted airport control, asking to call for female staff by sending a message on his wireless.
The crew member got angry and started arguing, and even before the female staff could reach her, the crew member slapped him.
Meanwhile, the female crew member has also filed a case against the ASI.
SpiceJet Airlines also came in support of its employee, stating that the ASI used abusive language with the female staff and asked her to meet him at his home after duty.
"Today, an unfortunate incident occurred at Jaipur Airport involving a SpiceJet female security staff member and a male CISF personnel. While escorting a catering vehicle at the steel gate, our female security staff member, who had a valid airport entry pass issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), India's civil aviation security regulator, was subjected to inappropriate and unacceptable language by the CISF personnel, including asking her to come and meet him after his duty hours at his home. SpiceJet is taking immediate legal action in this serious case of sexual harassment against its female employee and has approached the local police. We stand firmly by our employee and are committed to providing her with full support," said a SpiceJet spokesperson.
A probe is underway into the matter.
More details are awaited.
