Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 19 : Samajwadi Party spokesperson Fakhrul Hasan Chand on Wednesday said that the party chief Akhilesh Yadav will initiate action against rebel MLAs. He said that Yadav would submit a letter to the Assembly speaker regarding the same.
The party spokesperson stated that the Samajwadi Party will cancel the membership of all the rebel MLAs under the anti-defection law.
"Samajwadi Party is soon going to take action against its rebel MLAs. Soon the Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav will submit a letter to the Assembly Speaker and take major action against the rebel MLA. The actions will be taken as per the rules. Be it the MLC elections of the state or the Lok Sabha elections, action will be taken against the Samajwadi Party MLAs who showcased rebellious attitudes and indulged in cross-voting," said Fakhrul Hasan.
He further launched a scathing attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue of farmers and said, "PM Modi promised that the income of farmers will be doubled. He said that this will be achieved by 2022. The fundamental problems of the farmers including loans and the price of their produce have not been dealt with. The farmers have been betrayed."
Earlier, the Samajwadi Party announced that Akhilesh Yadav would be the party's leader in the Lok Sabha.
The Samajwadi Party put up an impressive show in the Lok Sabha elections, winning 37 out of the 80 seats. The former Chief Minister himself won the party's stronghold seat of Kannauj, defeating BJP candidate Subrat Pathak by over 1,70,922 votes.
In the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party won 37 seats, the BJP won 33, the Congress won 6, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) won 2, and Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) and Apna Dal (Soneylal) won 1 seat each.
