New Delhi [India], December 22 : Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad on Sunday said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks in Parliament against BR Ambedkar was not only an insult to Baba Saheb but also to the Constitution of the country.
"The comment made by the Home Minister of the country Amit Shah is against the honour of Baba Saheb. It is an insulting comment. He has not only insulted Baba Saheb but also insulted the Constitution. Our Home Minister must take his words back in front of the country and clarify his ideology," said the Samajwadi Party MP.
Awadesh Prasad also reacted to the news of excavation at an old stepwell in Chandausi area of Sambhal. "...This is an attempt to divert attention from issues like farmers not getting fertilizers or Amit Shah's statement on Bhimrao Ambedkar... There are more important issues on which Yogi Adityanath should deploy his officers...," he said.
Sambhal's District Magistrate Rajendra Pensiya on Sunday confirmed that a 'baoli' with an area of 400 square meters has been uncovered. The structure having around four chambers has a few floors made of marble, he said.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai earlier today lashed out at Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his "derogatory" remarks on Dr BR Ambedkar. He said that the Home Minister didn't even add "Ji" as a suffix for Ambedkar, accusing him of being against the "Constitution" and being "anti-Dalit."
Rai, further said that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) don't want to walk on the path shown by Babasaheb Ambedkar.
Following the remarks made by Shah, Parliament witnessed parallel protests from both the Treasury and Opposition benches outside the parliament on Thursday morning, which led to a huge scuffle between the two sides with two BJP MPs, Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput sustaining injuries.
The ruling BJP MPs were protesting in the Parliament's premises against the Congress party for "insulting" Babasaheb Ambedkar. INDIA Bloc MPs led by Rahul Gandhi held a protest in the Parliament premises and demanded the resignation of Shah over his remarks on Ambedkar.
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge also alleged that he was pushed by BJP MPs while he was trying to enter Parliament in what turned out to be a face-off between Congress and BJP MPs during their protests.
