New Delhi [India], May 20 : Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal hit out at Union Minister Amit Shah over his "intruders" remarks saying that the latter is labelling citizens of the country "intruders" and reminded him of his oath not to discriminate against anyone.
"The ones whom they call intruders are the citizens of India and their names feature in the country's electoral roll. This means that you are saying that citizens of this country are intruders. You are the Home Minister of this country. You have taken the oath that you will not discriminate against anyone. But you are labelling your citizens as intruders. Everyone knows exactly whom you are labelling," Sibal said in a press conference on Monday.
The senior politician said that the BJP has got the sense that they are losing the Lok Sabha elections and hence they want to communalise the polls.
"They have got the sense that they are losing. And they are on the way to communalise the polls on those places where voting is left," Sibal said.
Kapil Sibal also said that it is possible that Shah has so much ill will against his own citizens that he is labelling them as 'intruders" only because they did not vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
"You have so much ill will against your own citizens that you cannot tolerate them because you think that they will not vote for you," he said.
Sibbal alleged that the Election Commission was biased and would not take notice of such comments, "The Election Commission should issue notice on such statements suo moto. But they won't and we also do not expect that from them."
"Even notices are not sent to the BJP on such statements," he added.
Sibal also said that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi thought that they would stand to benefit if voting is held over seven phases, but instead people are turning against them over the long duration of the polling process.
"You (PM Modi) thought that if voting is held for seven phases it will be beneficial for you. But you were wrong. The more you make such disturbing statements people are turning against you. People know you well. If you had conducted polls in few phases it would not have been unfavourable to you," he said.
Rubbishing claims by the BJP that the INDIA bloc will be doing away with the country's nuclear potential, Sibal said, "Who did the 1984 nuclear tests? Indira Gandhi? How can we end our nuclear power when we have started it? This was followed by Vajpayee. This is another wrong statement."
Accusing the BJP of tampering with the voting process, Sibal said, "If there is any problem with the EVMs the vote goes to BJP. They know that they won't win elections in the right way. So they take up wrongful means."
"Their police force do not let people cast votes. They threaten people. They have uncountable money. They are utilising this," he added.
In response to a reporter's question about the BJP's Viksit Bharat mission, the veteran politician said, "They (BJP) said that you have given 60 years to the Congress, they want 60 months. Five years are over and now they are saying they want to create Viksit Bharat so they want more time. First, tell us what you have done in the last 10 years."
