"Amit Shah must apologise for insulting Ambedkar," says Congress' Sachin Pilot

Noida (Uttar Pradesh) [India], December 23 : Slamming Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Monday said that the entire country has been witnessing outrage against the statement made by Amit Shah and that the country has understood the real intent of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
"There is outrage in the whole country against the statement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The country has understood the real intentions of the BJP and their thinking is against the Constitution and Dr BR Ambedkar. Union Home Minister should apologize for insulting Dr BR Ambedkar. There has been a demand in the entire country that Amit Shah must resign on moral grounds," said Sachin Pilot.
Former Rajasthan CM and Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot also endorsed Pilots views calling for the Home Minister to step down.
"The kind of comment made by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, it is natural that this issue had to be raised inside and outside the Parliament. The government should understand the anger in the country... Congress has demanded that he (Amit Shah) should resign. Every opposition party is demanding this," he said.
Opposition parties have accused Amit Shah of showing disrespect towards Ambedkar, a charge denied by the senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader.
Following the remarks made by Shah, the Parliament witnessed parallel protests from both the Treasury and Opposition benches outside the parliament last week, which led to a huge scuffle between the two sides with two BJP MPs, Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput sustaining injuries.
The ruling BJP MPs were protesting in the Parliament's premises against the Congress party for "insulting" Babasaheb Ambedkar. INDIA Bloc MPs led by Rahul Gandhi held a protest in the Parliament premises and demanded the resignation of Shah over his remarks on Ambedkar.
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge also alleged that he was pushed by BJP MPs while he was trying to enter Parliament in what turned out to be a face-off between Congress and BJP MPs during their protests.
Meanwhile, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress were "two sides of the same coin," alleging that both of the parties have been engaged in politics in the name of Babasaheb Ambedkar.
