New Delhi [India], December 8 : After Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge chaired the meeting over the outcome of Assembly polls in Chhattisgarh, state party in-charge Kumari Selja on Friday said that the grand old party is analysing in detail the reasons behind the defeat.
"All surveys stated that Congress will win Chhattisgarh polls. This was proved true to an extent as our vote percentage did not fall. We are analysing in detail the reasons behind the party's loss. All leaders have assured the party's high command that the party has not lost the trust of the people," Kumari Selja said.
"All leaders have assured that they will fight together in Lok Sabha elections. Out of the 18 women candidates, 11 have won in the polls," she added.
As it surged to victory in the tribal heartland of Chhattisgarh, the BJP claimed a significant vote share of 46.27 per cent to 42.23 per cent of the incumbent Congress.
A total of 1,181 candidates across parties pitted themselves against each other for the 90-member Chhattisgarh assembly.
The polling in the state was held in two phases, with the first on November 7 featuring 223 candidates and the second seeing 958 candidates put their electoral fates to the test on November 17.
Of the 90 assembly constituencies in Chhattisgarh, the BJP bagged 54 while the Congress won 35.
