Nellore (Andhra Pradesh) [India], December 20 : In a significant operation, Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) officials intercepted a major ganja smuggling attempt at Budhanam toll plaza on Chillakuru national highway. The seized contraband, weighing 80 kg and valued at Rs 16 lakhs, was en route from Narsipatnam to Ram Nagar in Karnataka.
The SEB police successfully detained five individuals and impounded two vehicles involved in the illicit transportation.
During a media conference, Additional SP Rajendra disclosed crucial details about the operation. He revealed that all five suspects hail from Hyderabad and had arranged for two vehicles to transport the ganja from Narsipatnam to Karnataka.
Notably, two of the accused, Prasanth Reddy and Paramesh, have previous ganja-related cases registered against them at Hyderabad's Chadargut and Uppal excise stations.
Sekhar and Naresh played the role of drivers during the transportation. The accused allegedly met a person named Goppanna in Narsipatnam to procure the ganja, spending four lakhs on the illegal substance. However, their plans were thwarted as law enforcement apprehended them red-handed during the transport to Karnataka.
The detained individuals are expected to face legal consequences for their involvement in the ganja smuggling attempt.
