New Delhi [India], June 8 : Janata Dal (U) leader Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh hit out at Congress for saying NDA's full form is Naidu Dependent Alliance or Nitish Dependent Alliance," and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi bowed down before the Constitution during the NDA Parliamentary party meeting in Samvidhan Sadan on Friday.
He further accused Congress of alleging BJP of "rewriting" the Constitution.
Speaking with reporters here, Ranjan said, "When Congress could find nothing else, Angoor Nahi Mila Toh Ab khatte Hain". (This phrase is used to describe a situation where someone criticizes or devalues something that they desire but cannot attain).
Janata Dal (U) leader Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh said, "Just now, they were forming the government and (they were clamouring that) the Constitution of the country was under threat. But yesterday you saw that when the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) reached the Samvidhan Sadan (Central Hall of Parliament), he bowed before the Constitution of India."
Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said that the "non-biological" Prime Minister secured fewer votes than "biological" Rahul Gandhi and Kishori Lal Sharma. He further sharpened his attack on the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), calling it a coalition "Naidu/Nitish Dependent Alliance".
On Friday, PM Modi bowed and respectfully touched the Constitution of India with his forehead after he entered the Sanvidhan Sabha (Centre hall of Parliament).
"The statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Babasaheb Ambedkar were removed from the Parliament premises...Narendra Modi said that no one knew Mahatma Gandhi before the movie Gandhi was released, but when the public responded, to vent anger Gandhi's statue was removed," he said.
Referring to the PM-designate action of bowing in front of the Constitution, Khera said, "When your ideological ancestors fired bullets at Mahatma Gandhi, they(Godse) too had bowed before him just as you were bowing before the Constitution today... When Rajiv ji was assassinated, that woman too had first garlanded Rajiv ji, bowed before him and then assassinated him, so today I was very scared when you (PM) were bowing before the Constitution."
Narendra Modi is likely to take oath as the Prime Minister for the third consecutive time on June 9.
According to the results announced by the Election Commission of India on Tuesday, the BJP won 240 seats and along with its allies, it stands at 293 seats. Chandrababu Naidu's TDP and Nitish Kumar's JDU, having won 16 and 12 seats respectively in their respective states, have extended support to the NDA.
