Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], March 5 : Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) MP Thol. Thirumavalavan expressed his party's support for Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin's call for an All-Party Meeting on the issue of parliamentary constituency delimitation.
Speaking on the matter, Thirumavalavan highlighted the potential impact of delimitation on southern states, including Tamil Nadu, and praised the Chief Minister's efforts to bring all parties together for a discussion.
"If Delimitation comes, Southern States will be affected, and so Tamil Nadu CM has called for All Party meeting. We VCK party appreciate his efforts," Thirumavalavan said, acknowledging the need for a united stance from the state's political leaders.
The VCK leader also raised concerns over the proposal to increase constituencies, demanding that the same formula be applied uniformly across India. "VCK demands not to increase the constituencies in any state and same formula must be followed across India," he stated.
On the absence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from the meeting, Thirumavalavan expressed his disappointment, saying, "They should have participated in the meeting and should have cleared what they are trying to say and make some clarity on it."
He also accused the Tamil Nadu BJP President, K Annamalai, of engaging in political maneuvering regarding the issue, adding, "TN BJP president Annamalai is the person doing politics on this matter. DMK and its alliance are not doing politics on it."
Earlier, the all-party meeting presided over by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin passed a resolution requesting PM Modi to give assurance in the parliament that if delimitation is done, it should be based on the 1971 population census from 2026 to the next 30 years.
64 parties were called for today's all-party meeting on Constituency Delimitation, in which 58 parties (including organisations) participated.
As per the resolution, "This all-party meeting unanimously strongly opposes Delimitation based on population, which is seen as a big threat to India's federal structure and Tamil Nadu and other Southern States representation."
The BJP, Tamil Maanila Congress, Pudhiya Tamilagam, Pudhiya Needhi Katchi, and Naam Tamilar Katchi did not participate in the all-party meeting.
