Shivpuri (Madhya Pradesh) [India], August 21 : Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday made a fresh announcement to make ‘Pichhore’ a new district in the state amid Leader of Opposition Govind Singh writing to Election Commission of India (ECI) urging to direct the state government not to make any new announcements.
CM Chouhan made the announcement while addressing Ladli Bahna Sammelan in Pichhore town in Shivpuri district.
Addressing the program, CM Chouhan told the public, “You make a promise to me and I make a promise to you. You make Pritam Lodhi, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Pichhore constituency, an MLA and I will make Pichhore a district. Don't worry that Pichhore will become a district, this is the government of the BJP. We do what we say.”
Lodhi is one of the candidates among the first list of 39 candidates released by the BJP for the 230-seat state assembly. Lodhi will be contesting the election on an unreserved seat.
The BJP released the first list of candidates last Thursday, August 17. In the list released by the party five of the 39 candidates announced are women. Of these 39 seats, 21 are for the candidates from the reserved categories which include eight from scheduled Caste (SC) and 13 from Scheduled Tribes (ST).
Earlier in the day, the letter which LoP and Congress leader Singh wrote to ECI read, “Madhya Pradesh assembly elections are likely to be held in the month of November this year. The ruling party BJP has started its preparations for the election by releasing the first list of 39 candidates. Any kind of announcement at this time will directly come under the category of giving inducements to the voters, which is a clear violation of the model code of conduct.”
“Therefore, it is requested to direct the Madhya Pradesh government about not making any new announcement so that the election process can be completed in a fair and transparent manner,” the letter further states.
