Assam Cabinet approves key decisions, including provision of bicycles for students, release of salaries to teachers in KAAC

Guwahati (Assam) [India], September 24 : The Assam Cabinet led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday announced key decisions for the state, including the provision of bicycles to over 3 lakh students, the allotment of funds for boosting technical education, and the release of salaries to teachers in KAAC, among others.
The Assam Chief Minister took to his official handle on X and announced the cabinet decisions: "In today's meeting of the Assam Cabinet, we resolved to provide bicycles to over 3 lakh students, allot Rs 150 crore for 3 new polytechnics, transfer government land for railway line doubling, and re-engage 451 part-time faculties in engineering colleges and release salaries for 131 teachers in KAAC.
The key cabinet decisions taken in the meeting included ensuring seamless academic activities in government.
In a post on X, CM Sarma said that the Cabinet has accorded approval to the proposal of re-engagement of 451 part-time faculty against the existing vacant posts in the Govt Engineering Colleges and Polytechnics in Assam under Rule 3F.
The post said that the decision will ensure uninterrupted academic classes and other related activities in every branch of Government Engineering Colleges and Polytechnics.
"To increase capacity of the railway network in the region and generate employment opportunities for local youth, the Assam Cabinet has accorded approval to the transfer of 8 bighas of government land in favour of NF Railways for the construction of a doubling railway line between the Azara-Kamakhya," read the post.
Moreover, the Cabinet has accorded approval to the proposal to remove the anomaly of pay scale from the posts of Computor Grade-II, Grade- I and Head Computor under the Directorate of Land Records and Surveys, Assam (DLR&S).
This decision will remove the long pending inequality of grade pay between the cadres of computers and traversers, both under the establishment of the DLR&s, considering the similar nature of work and other technical qualifications, the post read.
The Cabinet also announced the provision of bicycles for students of Class 9.
"To promote regularity of students in schools and act as a deterrent against dropout in secondary level, the Assam Cabinet has accorded approval to procurement of bicycles for students of Class IX in Secondary Govt, Prov Schools for 2024-25," it said.
Additionally, financial sanction of 2148.55 crore has been approved for the scheme, which will entail bicycles for 3,23,640 students (loth boys and girls) in the state.
As per the CM's post, the bicycles will ensure ease of communication and security to cover the distance from students' homes to school and vice versa on time.
The Cabinet also took key decision to boost technical education through Polytechnics.
"To imbibe technical skills amongst students, three new polytechnics are coming up at Hajo, Majuli and Tingkhong. The Cabinet has accorded approval to re-validation of the administrative approval of 2,150 cr for construction of the proposed polytechnics," read the post.
Additionally, to ensure continuation of education of students in Karbi Anglong, the Cabinet has accorded approval to payment of salaries to 131 teachers appointed by the KAAC.
Earlier last week, the Assam Cabinet announced key decisions for the state, including the transfer of illegal trading scam cases to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), partnering with Dassault to develop skilled professionals in aerospace, and launching a fresh recruitment drive for teachers, among other initiatives.
