Assam CM launches new app, announces dates for second edition of Amrit Brikshya Andolan

Guwahati (Assam) [India], July 19 : Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a new app for the second edition of the Amrit Brikshya Andolan at the Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati on Friday.
Addressing a press conference at the launch, Sarma said that this year the forest department has prepared four crore in house saplings, with a target of three crore saplings planted this year.
He further added that 90 per cent of the 1.12 crore saplings that were planted last year in the first edition of the Amrit Brikshya Andolan survived.
"This year, the state forest department has prepared four crore saplings (in-house)...This year, our target is a three crore sapling plantation...We planted 1.12 crore saplings last year. 90 per cent out of 1.12 crore saplings have survived," Sarma said.
This year, the Amrit Brikshya Andolan will be held between August 1 and 15.
Sarma also stated that their target is to plant 10 crore saplings in three to four years and to expand the forest cover from 36 per cent to 38 per cent.
"Our target is to plant 10 crore saplings in three to four years...There is 36 per cent forest cover in Assam and we want to expand it to 38 per cent," he said.
He also mentioned that there will be 4000 distribution points set up across the state from where saplings will be distributed.
He also urged the people to register their names in the Amrit Brikshya Andolan app or portal and upload photos of plantations to the portal.
He further stated that this year they will also have the involvement of defence personnel, including the Army and the Indian Air Force, to take part in the Amrit Brikshya Andolan.
Last year, the Amrit Brikshya Andolan was started on September 17, but sapling distribution started on September 12. A total of 10 Guinness World Records were created last year in the first edition of the Amrit Brikshya Andolan.
