Assam CM lays foundations of projects worth Rs 767 crore in Barak Valley

Guwahati (Assam) [India], September 7 : Giving a new momentum to development of the Barak Valley, which consists of three administrative districts namely Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated and laid foundations of several projects worth Rs 767 crore in Assam's Barak Valley on Thursday.
It may be noted that Chief Minister Sarma, who is on a two-day visit to Barak Valley, today visited Cachar and Hailakandi districts and laid foundations of a number of projects which would take the development of Barak Valley to a new height.
During his visit, he also inaugurated 75 schemes encompassing 18,869 beneficiaries from eight Legislative Assembly Constituencies in the region. 
The Chief Minister inaugurated five schemes involving a financial outlay of Rs 229 crore and laid the foundations for four projects worth Rs 538 crore. 
The Chief Minister also laid foundations for improvement of road measuring 22 Km from Borkhola to Kalain involving Rs 210 crore and another road from Cechabari to Hailakandi measuring 24 Km involving Rs 264 crore.
Chief Minister Sarma also inaugurated three bridges over the Barak river and unveiled a statue of Lachit Borphukan on the premises of DC office Cachar. 
He also unveiled a statue of Bharat Ratna Atal Behari Vajpayee in Hailakandi.
Speaking at a public meeting held at DSA field at Silchar, Chief Minister Sarma said, "The government is prioritizing the promotion of the transportation of Barak Valley along with development of other sectors".
CM Sarma, on the occasion, announced that another bridge will be constructed at Silghat.
He said that the three bridges that he inaugurated will not only improve the transportation of the region, they will bring about overall development of Barak Valley.
Speaking on the inauguration of the piped water schemes in Barak Valley today, the Chief Minister said that the scheme will facilitate supplying pure drinking water to the people.
"Close to the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, State government has taken steps to implement Jal Jeevan Mission in the state very assiduously", CM Sarma said.
"As long as Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains in power, development of Barak Valley will flow unrelentingly. A Cancer Care Institute will also be dedicated to the people of Barak Valley in the coming December-January", he added.
Transport Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, PHE Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, MP Kripanath Malla, MLAs Mihir Kanti Shome, Kaushik Rai, Bijay Malakar, Krishnandu Paul, Dipayan Chakraborty, Karim Uddin Barbhuiya and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
Later, Chief Minister Sarma visited Hailakandi district and addressed a public rally held at DSA field.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sarma said that the development of Assam took shape during the time of Atal Bihari Vajpayee when he was the Prime Minister.
"For the development of the Hailakandi district, the State government has taken a series of steps. For solving drinking water problem in Hailakandi, State government is to take up a scheme worth Rs 60 crore", CM Sarma said.
He also said that Rs 200 crore will be spent for the development of roads in Hailakandi district.
"For the development of district library at Hailakandi and the stadium, the state government is to spend Rs 20 crore, that is Rs 10 crore for each project", the Assam CM added.
