Assam Government to launch second phase of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana

Guwahati (Assam) [India], September 11 : Assam Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass on Wednesday said that the state government would launch the second phase of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) in Assam along with the rest of the country and that under Prime Minister Modi, the government remains committed to the goal of 'Housing for All'.
The Government of India has extended the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) (PMAY-G) for another five years and aims to provide an additional two crore houses all over India.
"This would launch the second phase of PMYA-G for Assam along with the rest of the country. Under the visionary leadership of PM Modi, the government remains committed to the goal of 'Housing for all', and ensures that no family is left without a secure and dignified place to live," he said.
Speaking to ANI, Dass said "1,71,593 houses have been sanctioned for Assam under the new PMAY-G and the first instalment in Assam will be on September 15. Along with that, a Grah Pravesh ceremony for 1,03,575 completed PMAY-G houses will also be organized in the state."
Dass also mentioned that under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa, PMAY-G has been able to accommodate the poorest of the poor in the remotest corners of the state and has received the target of 22, 23,435 pucca houses since 2016.
"Under our CM Himanta Biswa, PMAY-G has been able to accommodate the poorest of the poor in the remotest corners of the state. Since 2016, Assam has received a target of 22,23,435 pucca houses and has already received the sanction of 21,22,772 out of which 19,17,441 have been built. Assam has completed 15,13,133 houses in three years," he added.
Further, he said that with the successful implementation of the PMAY-G scheme in 2016, scheme 2.0 promises to build on the legacy, enhance housing infrastructure and improve the housing conditions of the poor.
"With the successful implementation of PMAY-G since its inception in 2016, PMAY-G 2.0 promises to build upon this legacy, enhancing housing infrastructure and improving the living conditions of rural citizens. With this aim, PMAY-G 2.0 is being launched on September 15 by the PM in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. PM Modi will take part in the ceremonial function for sanctioning of houses and will release the first instalment of assistance to 10 lakh beneficiaries and the Grah Pravesh ceremony for 26 lakh completed PMAY-G houses will also be held. PM Modi will also launch the new Awaas Plus survey to start the new survey for inclusion of beneficiaries in the Permanent Wait List (PWL) for PMAY-G," Dass said.
The Assam Minister further said that Assam has targeted to complete the newly sanctioned houses by 2026.
"We plan on completing the newly sanctioned houses by 2026," he added.
