Assam govt employee held for accepting bribe, probe underway

Guwahati (Assam) [India], September 21 : The sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam on Thursday arrested a government employee for accepting a bribe.
The arrested government employee was identified as Jyotirmoy Baruah, Junior Assistant of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), in Assam's Tamulpur district.
A complaint was received at the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in Assam, alleging that Jyotirmoy Baruah, Junior Assistant of ICDS, Nagrijuli office in Tamulpur district, had demanded Rs 1,00,000 as a bribe from the complainant for helping the latter in getting her daughter-in-law selected as Anganwadi Worker at Dhanpara Anganwadi Centre under ICDS Project, Nagrijuli, under Tamulpur district, said Pranab Jyoti Goswami, Chief Public Relation Officer, Assam police. 
 
"Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Directorate for taking necessary legal action against the public servant. Accordingly, a trap was laid today, on Thursday by a team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, in Rangia town under Kamrup district. Jyotirmoy Baruah was caught red-handed in Rangia town immediately after he accepted Rs 8,000 as part of the demanded bribe from the complainant. The tainted bribe money has been recovered from his possession and has been seized accordingly, in the presence of independent witnesses. Finding sufficient evidence against the accused public servant, he has been arrested by the team of the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam," Goswami added. 
 
In this connection, a case was registered at ACB Police Station under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. 
A probe is underway.
