Assam: Police seize 588 grams of heroin, 2 arrested in Kamrup

Kamrup (Assam) [India], September 19 : The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police seized 588 grams of heroin and arrested two persons in Assam's Kamrup district, officials said on Thursday.
Pranab Jyoti Goswami, CPRO of Assam Police said that STF received information that narcotics would be transported from Camphai of Mizoram to Barpeta in a truck.
Accordingly, an STF team trailed the truck bearing registration number AS-28AC-1042 from Shillong Bypass and intercepted it at Amingaon in Kamrup district.
The truck was searched and 42 soap boxes/packets of heroin weighing 588 grams without cover were found concealed in the tarpaulin in the hood of the truck.
The STF team apprehended two carriers namely Mofiz Uddin and Lal Chan Badsha, both of Howly of Barpeta district, Assam police said.
Earlier on Monday, three accused were arrested after recovery of 1.20 lakh Yaba tablets and 537 grams of heroin, the total market value of seized drugs being Rs 42 crore, from a vehicle in Assam's Karimganj district.
Partha Protim Das, Superintendent of Police of Karimganj district, told ANI that the accused had tried to carry the seized narcotics to the rest of the country through Guwahati.
"Yesterday night we received an input that a vehicle is coming from Champhai district of Mizoram carrying narcotics," he said
Today morning, we intercepted the vehicle at Patel Nagar area under Karimganj police station. After a thorough search, we recovered 1.20 lakh Yaba tablets and 537 grams of heroin from the secret chamber inside the front seat of the vehicle. We have taken two people in our custody," he said.
The accused were identified as Hanif Uddin of the Ratabari police station area and Jabrul Hussain of the Patharkandi police station area of Karimganj district.
"The market value of the seized drugs is estimated at around Rs 42 crore. In linkage, we have apprehended one more person. Further investigation is underway," the senior police official said.
