Assam police STF seizes over 2 kg heroin worth Rs 17.5 crore in two raids, arrests four

Guwahati (Assam) [India], July 14 : The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam police seized more than 2 kg of heroin worth Rs 17.5 crore in two separate operations and apprehended four drug peddlers.
In the first operation, the STF team recovered 1.732 kg of heroin worth Rs 15 crore in Golaghat district on Sunday and apprehended two persons.
Pranab Jyoti Goswami, CPRO of Assam police said that, based on credible source information regarding stocking of large quantities of contraband drugs, a raid was conducted by the team of STF, Assam and one soap box of heroin containing 13 grams from the possesion of Md Shohidul Islam and Oliullah Hussain was recovered.

"Further, during spot interrogation, the two apprehended persons admitted about heroin being kept concealed in their sister's house nearby and being led by the two apprehended persons to the house of their sister Jahida Khatoon and recovered another 140 numbers of soap boxes of heroin which were kept in concealed condition in their sister house premises.
The weight of the recovered Heroin is found to be 1.719 kg. A total of 141 soap boxes of weight 1.732 kg were recovered. The value of the seized contraband is approximately Rs 15 crore," Pranab Jyoti Goswami said.
In second operation, the STF team recovered 308 grams of heroin from Katabari area Guwahati and apprehended two persons.
"Source information was received that narcotics would be transported by Awadh Assam Express from Dimapur to Lower Assam by two Daulasal (Barpeta) based peddlers namely Sahar Ali and Mir Hussain. Based on the input, the peddlers were traced at Katahbari in Guwahati in their rented accomodation and 22 soap boxes/packets of heroin weighing 308 grams without cover were recovered. The two peddlers were apprehended and necessary legal measures have been initiated," the CPRO of Assam police said.
