Assam: YouTuber Altaf Hossain to be presented in Dhubri Court over controversial 'Bihu' song

Dhubri (Assam) [India], September 3 : YouTuber Altaf Hossain from Gauripur in Assam's Dhubri district, arrested for performing a controversial version of a traditional Bihu song, is set to be produced in the Dhubri court on Tuesday, an official said.
Jitumoni Baishya, officer-in-charge of Gauripur police station confirmed this in a telephonic conversation with ANI.
Altaf's rendition of the song "Asom tumar baapor neki, khaali miya khedibo khuja (Does Assam belong to your father that you just want to chase Miyas out)', dubbed as a Miya song has sparked lots of hue and cry throughout Assam.
Miya are the term usually used for Muslims of Bangladeshi origin
The police also filed a suo-moto case in Gauripur police station and registered a case 259/24 under section 196/299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. FIR stated that Altaf's song hurt religious sentiment and an attempt to bring communual unrest.
Altaf was arrested last Sunday and produced before the Dhubri court, which sent the youTuber to police custody that ends today.
