Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], May 3 : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has come out strongly against Governor CV Ananda Bose over the molestation allegations against him and said that a person having such allegations against himself doesn't have the right to talk on the Sandeshkhali issue.
She also asked why Prime Minister Narendra Modi didn't speak on the issue, even though he is present in the state.
"The Governor misbehaved with a young girl You conveyed to me yesterday why my minister is talking about this? I want to make it clear, that there is not one, I have received thousands of such cases, but I didn't speak then. But, yesterday's incident was heart-wrenching for me," she told reporters on Friday.
An employee at the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata on Thursday alleged that she was sexually harassed by West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose. The woman also lodged a complaint at the Hare Street police station in Kolkata.
"Before spreading news about Sandeshkahli, tell us why the Governor molested a girl working at his residence. Someone who used to call these girls at any hour of the day and night to misbehave with them, you have no right to talk about the women of the state. I have seen her crying in the video," CM Mamata further said.
"PM Modi, you stayed there yesterday. But why did you not utter a word about this? She is saying she won't go to work in Raj Bhavan. She is scared that she can again be molested. And you dare to talk about the welfare of mothers and sisters?" she added.
After the allegations surfaced, the Bengal governor issued a statement banning the entry of the police and Minister of State for Finance Chandrima Bhattacharya into the Raj Bhavan premises of Kolkata, Darjeeling, and Barrackpore over "defamation and anti-constitutional media statements."
"For defamation and anti-constitutional media statements against Governor, a junior gubernatorial appointee, Chandrima Bhattacharya, Minister of State (Independent Charge) Department of Finance has been banned entry into the Raj Bhavan premises of Kolkata, Darjeeling and Barrackpore," the order on Thursday stated.
Trinamool Congress leader Shashi Panja said that the Governor has "sabotaged the reputation of his post and his chair".
"We are utterly shocked. The same Governor who reached Sandeshkhali talking about women's rights has now been involved in a rather shameful incident. He has sabotaged the reputation of his post and his chair. The victim is a staff member at the Raj Bhavan," Panja told reporters on Thursday.
On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party has defended Governor Bose amid the allegations.
State BJP chief Dilip Ghosh said that this matter is a ploy of "TMC politics" and asked how "low will they stoop."
BJP MP Agnimitra Paul also slammed TMC alleging that the molestation case was filed against him after he started talking about the TMC government's "wrong policies and injustice."
