Bihar CM expresses grief over demise of Sushil Kumar Modi; funeral to be conducted with state honours

Patna (Bihar) [India], May 14 : Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed grief over the demise of former Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Modi and was instructed to bring the mortal remains of Sushil Modi from Delhi to Patna by special plane.
Sushil Modi passed away at Delhi's All-India Institute of Medical Sciences on Monday evening after battling cancer for seven months. He was 72.
The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) stated that his funeral will be conducted with state honours. The CM consoled his wife, Jessie George, speaking to her over the telephone.
Brother of the late former Bihar Deputy CM Sushil Modi, Mahesh Modi, said that it is an "irreparable loss" and no one can fulfil this loss.
"No one can fulfil his loss in the party and the family. The family members are in shock and by the time it heals,. At around noon, Sushil Modi's mortals will land at the airport. The preparations for the last rites are underway. The place has not been decided yet. JP Nadda ji will also come here," he said.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh, on the demise of Sushil Modi, said that he played an active role in politics
"From student life to students' movements, he played an active role in politics. It is not possible to fill the void he has left. Sushil Modi always stood with his friends, even in bad times," he said.
BJP candidate from Patna Sahib Lok Sabha seat, Ravi Shankar Prasad, said that Sushil Modi played a big role in taking the Bihar BJP forward.
"This is very painful for us. He was like an elder brother to me. We were together in the student union, Bihar and India's politics... He stood against the corruption of Lalu Prasad Yadav. He played a big role in taking forward Bihar BJP... I pay my humble tribute to him. This is an irreparable loss," he said.
JDU MP Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh said, "Sushil Modi was a grounded leader in Bihar...We are all deeply saddened by the demise of Sushil Modi and it is impossible to compensate for his absence."
Sushil Modi announced his treatment last month and did not participate in the Lok Sabha election campaign. Over his three-decade-long political career, Modi played a pivotal role in shaping Bihar's political environment. Sushil Modi held various positions in his three-decade-long political career. He served as an MLA, MLC and member of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
He served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar from 2005 to 2013 and again from 2017 to 2020.
