Cuttack (Odisha) [India], March 22 : Bhartruhari Mahtab, a senior BJD MP and one of its founding members who resigned from Naveen Patnaik's party on Friday, alleged that the work culture of the ruling party proved to be "suffocating" for him, leading to his departure.
"The way politics is going on in Odisha and the way BJD is working, it was suffocating for me to be there and hence I resigned..." Mahtab said.
In a major setback to the ruling party in Odisha ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, Mahtab announced his resignation from the primary membership of the party on Friday.
Mahtab, who has represented the Cuttack Lok Sabha constituency for six consecutive terms, stated, "I have sent my resignation letter to BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at 4 pm today."
