New Delhi [India], September 24 : BJP Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari slammed the Congress party and the opposition alliance, INDIA bloc, on Tuesday, accusing them of "supporting the rape accused" in the country.
Bhandari's remarks came after the Congress party recently questioned the "encounter" of the accused in the sexual assault case of two minor girls in Maharashtra's Badlapur.
Speaking to ANI, Bhandari said, "Every leader of the Congress party and INDI alliance stands in support of the rape accused. In the RG Kar Medical College & Hospital rape-murder incident, the Mamata Banerjee government was trying to protect the accused. Akhilesh Yadav was trying to protect the accused Moeed Khan in the Ayodhya gangrape case. Rahul Gandhi said that the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder incident is a distraction."
"Today, when action is taken as per law in the Badlapur incident, the leaders of Congress call it a cold-blooded murder. They never stand with women but they stand with their vote bank. That's why the women of the nation have repeatedly rejected them," he added.
The alleged sexual assault of two fourth-grade girls at a school in Maharashtra's Badlapur had sparked outrage. On August 17, police arrested an attendant of the school in connection with the incident. However, the accused died on September 23 in retaliatory firing after he snatched a gun from a police officer and opened fire at him.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla alleged that while Maharashtra and Badlapur heaved a sigh of relief, the INDIA bloc was mourning the death of a rapist.

"The accused person in the Badlapur sexual assault was shot by the police. On one hand, while Maharashtra and Badlapur have taken a sigh of relief, on the other hand, parties of the INDI alliance are mourning his death. Is this a 'balatkari bachao alliance'? In the RG Kar case, they tried to save the accused, protecting the accused Moeed Khan in the Ayodhya rape case. Some leaders of the Congress party and INDI alliance have started speaking in favour of rapists. They have stopped speaking in favour of the police and the public. This is shameful," Poonawalla said in a self-recorded video.
Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Vijay Wadettiwar demanded a judicial probe in the matter, while state Congress chief Nana Patole questioned whether the "encounter" was done to save trustees of the school who have not been arrested so far.
"We are coming to know that the accused in the Badlapur sexual assault case has died. Our demand is that no accused should be spared so that such an incident does not repeat. Why the government is trying to protect the main culprits, the court should investigate this, this is the demand of the Congress party," Nana Patole said earlier.
NCP MP Supriya Sule slammed the Mahayuti government, dubbing its approach as shocking.
"Delay in the filing of the FIR first, and now the prime accused is killed in custody! This is an absolute breakdown of law enforcement and the justice system. This is inexcusable. It deprives the people of Maharashtra of justice," Sule said.
