"BJP, ally parties aim to win 90-100 seats in 2026 Assam elections": Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati (Assam) [India], June 10 : Assam Chief Minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma voiced his confidence in the BJP-led NDA's win in the 2026 assembly elections in the state.
The Chief Minister said, "BJP and its ally parties have targeted to win 90-100 assembly seats in the 2026 assembly election in the state."
Bharatiya Janata Party had contested elections on 11 Lok Sabha constituencies and won nine seats while its ally party Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) contested two seats and won one seat and the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) contested one and won the seat. Out of the total 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam the Congress-led INDIA bloc won three seats in the state.
The number of constituencies of the Assam Legislative Assembly is 126.
According to the results declared by the Election Commission of India (ECI), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally parties led in 93 assembly constituencies in Assam in the recently concluded Lok Sabha election.
While Congress led in 31 assembly constituencies and Bodoland People's Front (BPF) led in two assembly constituencies.
Out of a total of 126 assembly constituencies in the state, BJP led in 76 assembly seats while its ally parties AGP and UPPL led in 10 and 7 assembly seats respectively.
As per data from the Election Commission of India (ECI), BJP led in all 10 assembly constituencies under the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seat, nine assembly constituencies under the Guwahati Lok Sabha seat, nine assembly constituencies under the Kaziranga Lok Sabha seat, 10 assembly constituencies under the Darrang-Udalguri Lok Sabha seat, all nine assembly constituencies under Sonitpur Lok Sabha seat.
BJP also led on eight assembly constituencies under the Lakhimpur Lok Sabha seat, all six assembly constituencies under the Diphu Lok Sabha seat, six assembly constituencies under the Silchar Lok Sabha seat, and four in Karimganj and Nagaon Lok Sabha seats.
On the other hand, BJP's ally party AGP led in nine assembly constituencies under the Barpeta Lok Sabha seat and one in the Dhubri Lok Sabha seat while UPPL led in 7 assembly constituencies under the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat.
The opposition Congress-led INDIA alliance- Congress led in nine assembly constituencies under Jorhat Lok Sabha seat, 10 in Dhubri Lok Sabha seat, four in Nagaon Lok Sabha seat, two in Karimganj, one each in Silchar, Darrang-Udalguri, Kaziranga, Guwahati, Lakhimpur, Barpeta Lok Sabha seats; while its ally Bodoland People's Front (BPF) led in two assembly constituencies under Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat.
Congress candidate Rakibul Hussain won from Dhubri seat against AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal with a record margin of more than 10.12 lakh votes, in the just concluded parliamentary polls.
