BJP announces nine candidates for Rajya Sabha bypolls; Bittu fielded from Rajasthan, Kiran Choudhary from Haryana

New Delhi [India], August 20 : The Bhartiya Janata party on Tuesday announced nine candidates for the Rajya Sabha by-elections with the party fielding union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu from Rajasthan.
Bittu is the Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries. He lost the Lok Sabha polls from Ludhiana.
Minister of State for Fisheries and Animal Husbandry George Kurian will be in the fray from Madhya Pradesh.
Former Congress leader Kiran Choudhary, who joined the BJP earlier this year, has been fielded from Haryana.
The party has fielded Manan Kumar Mishra, Chairman,Bar Council of India, as its candidate from Bihar.
Dhairyashil Patil (Maharashtra), Mamta Mohanta (Odisha), Rajib Bhattacharjee (Tripura) and Mission Ranjan Das (Assam) are other party candidates.
Former Union Minister Rameswar Teli has also been fielded from Assam.
Election Commission earlier this month announced that elections to 12 vacant Rajya Sabha will be held on September 3. Most of these seats fell vacant as sitting Rajya Sabha members were elected to Lok Sabha. The BJP-led NDA is hoping for a majority in the Rajya Sabha after the bypolls.
