"BJP candidates will give tough fight to Kejriwal, other AAP candidates": BJP's Harsh Malhotra on Delhi Assembly polls

Jan 04, 2025

New Delhi [India], January 4 : Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra on Saturday accused Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal of 'misleading' the public and failing to deliver on promises, while pointing towards issues such as unfulfilled education and healthcare commitments, broken sewer lines, and a lack of clean water supply.
Speaking to ANI, Malhotra asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to secure a decisive victory and bring development-focused governance to Delhi.
"In the upcoming assembly elections, BJP candidates will give a tough fight to Arvind Kejriwal and other AAP candidates. It has been more than fifteen days since AAP finalised its candidates, but not a single leader has told about a single work done for the people of Delhi in the last ten years...They (AAP) have not fulfilled a single promise made to the people. The people of Delhi will throw the AAP government out of power," he said.
"We have evidence of what the Central Government has done for Delhi. I ask them (AAP), what have they done for Delhi? Now even the Municipal Corporation is under their control. They had promised to build 500 schools--if they have built even one, let them show us. During COVID, people suffered, but not a single hospital under their control was operational," Malhotra added.
The BJP leader further emphasized that the development work in Delhi has consistently been carried out by the Central Government.
"Just two days ago, the Prime Minister laid the foundation for three new colleges under Delhi University. Kejriwal had promised 20 colleges but did absolutely nothing. Tomorrow, the Sahibabad to Delhi Rapid Transit Metro will be inaugurated. The people of Delhi see all this, and that is why, just like in the Lok Sabha elections, they will vote for the BJP in the Vidhan Sabha elections as well," he said.
Harsh Malhotra also asserted that they will ensure 24-hour clean water supply for Delhi.
"We are also discussing plans for multilevel parking facilities. The BJP's vision is crystal clear--we will bring an industrial policy for Delhi. To address the traffic problems in Delhi, Nitin Gadkari has announced four new projects. We will tackle pollution and clean the Yamuna, something Kejriwal failed to do," he said.
He also stressed that this time the Chief Minister in Delhi will be from the BJP.
"The BJP is like a student who prepares throughout the year. We have worked hard for the past five years. We have approached the public, highlighting Arvind Kejriwal's non-governance. We have informed them about the thousands of crores of scams in the liquor policy under his government," Malhotra said.
Speaking on candidatures of BJP candidates Ramesh Bidhuri and Parvesh Verma against AAP stalwarts Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi, the Union MoS said that this time the people will remove the two AAP leaders.
"Our candidates, Ramesh Bidhuri and Parvesh Verma, will certainly win because people are asking Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi what they have done for them, and they have no answers. This time, the people of Delhi will remove these two and elect BJP candidates to the Vidhan Sabha," Harsh Malhotra said.
The assembly elections in Delhi are likely to be held in February 2025.
Congress, which was in power in Delhi for 15 successive years, has performed poorly in the past two assembly polls, failing to win any seat.
AAP won 62 out of the 70 seats in the 2020 assembly elections and BJP secured eight seats.
