Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], October 11 : Reacting to the Haryana assembly elections, senior Congress party leader Harish Rawat said that the people of Haryana wanted the Congress to win and that the BJP has succeeded in polarising in the name of caste.
"The loss in Haryana was very surprising. It is not only a challenge but also a shock for the party. People wanted Congress to win. Haryana wanted Congress to win. BJP succeeded in polarising the party based on caste...This is their strategy everywhere - polarisation between Hindus and Muslims, polarisation in the name of castes," Harish Rawat told ANI.
"They can't do politics without polarization. A meeting was held and details were sought from those who were working (on elections) in Haryana. What Rahul Gandhi said is not his comment but his guidance...I won't say that people are in politics selflessly but you should prioritize the party's interest, national interest," said Rawat defending Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
"More talks will be held. We will also send a fact-finding team. The whole country is waiting to know the reason for the Congress party's defeat as it is a major shock for everyone," he added.
BJP won 48 out of 90 seats in the Haryana assembly while Congress managed to win 37 seats. Independents won 3 seats and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) secured 2 seats, according to Election Commission data issued on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, after the meeting with the Election Commission of India Congress leader Bhupinder Hooda said that the ECI has assured to look into the complaints made by the party in connection with the results of the Assembly elections in the State.
The Congress delegation has informed EC about the "discrepancies" and complaints they received about some EVMs (electronic voting machines) and demanded the sealing and securing of those 'faulty' EVMs until the course of the investigation.
