Roorkee (Uttarakhand) [India], April 13 : In an attack on both the Congress and the BJP, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Bahujan Samajwadi party (BSP) chief Mayawati, accused the parties of failing to address the needs of marginalized communities and the middle class.
Mayawati criticized both the BJP and Congress for allegedly exploiting Uttarakhand repeatedly for their gains, asserting that the time has come for the people to defeat them.
Speaking at a rally in Roorkee, Mayawati asserted that Congress lost power due to discriminatory policies against Dalits and tribal communities, while BJP's promises of prosperity remained unfulfilled.
Slamming the BJP, Mayawati said, "If elections this time will be conducted in a 'free and fair' manner, the Bharatiya Janata party won't be able to come to power. Now the public of India including the poor, the marginalized, middle class and other honest working people whom they promised to show 'Ache din', know that their party till now has made false promises and haven't even fulfilled even one-fourth of those promises till now".
Mayawati accused BJP of politicizing central agencies and drew parallels with the Congress party's alleged misuse of power in the past.
"BJP has politicized all the central agencies of India like the Congress party," Mayawati said.
Listing her own administration's achievements, Mayawati emphasized the development initiatives undertaken during her tenure, particularly in Uttarakhand, which was part of Uttar Pradesh earlier.
"When I was in power, Uttarakhand which was part of Uttar Pradesh earlier, we fulfilled the desires of the hilly regions unlike the Congress and the BJP. We never let any act happen which would harm the ecology of the region. Nowadays the hilly regions have to suffer a lot, every other day there is soil erosion in the state," Mayawati asserted.
Earlier, while addressing a rally in Maharashtra's Nagpur Mayawati urged people to vote for her party and not be swayed by the BJP's persuasive tactics.
She added, "Just as we formed a government in Uttar Pradesh without issuing election manifestos, we will work similarly if we come to power at the national level."
"As the opposition parties release their election manifestos, especially those by the BJP, it is crucial for you to distance yourself from their persuasive tactics. In the interest of the nation and the state, you should cast your vote for our party, the BSP, rather than giving it to the BJP, Congress, or any other ruling or opposition party. Just as we formed a government in Uttar Pradesh without issuing election manifestos, we will work similarly if we come to power at the national level," she said.
