Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], December 5 : Leader of Opposition of Madhya Pradesh and senior Congress leader Govind Singh on Tuesday raised allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saying that they won the state assembly elections by manipulating the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
Congress leader Singh lost his own assembly seat Lahar in Bhind district to BJP candidate Ambrish Sharma by over 12000 votes.
"The people of the state was saying that the government is changing and it has to be removed. I believe that the BJP has won in Madhya Pradesh by manipulating the EVM machines," Singh said.
The Congress leader further made allegations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying the western countries stopped EVMs because their results were found to be hacked but why does PM Modi not want to change the machines?
"I remember that Amit Shah had announced during the previous Lok Sabha elections that they would get 300 seats and they got it. Even during the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh there was a wave of Samajwadi party in the UP assembly elections but PM Modi had said that they would form the government with two-third majority. Similarly, they announced in Madhya Pradesh to bring more than 150 seats and they crossed 150. The Western countries stopped EVM machines because their results were found to be hacked but why does PM Modi not want to change the machines?" the Congress leader asked.
When asked the same EVMs is there in Telangana where the Congress wins and even during 2018 MP assembly polls Congress won, Singh said that it was such that the secrets did not expose, that is why they did not do it once or twice in some states so that the public would understand that EVM was honest.
Meanwhile, he also said that he would accept the public's mandate about his defeat in the state assembly poll.
Madhya Pradesh went to poll for 230 assembly seats in a single phase on November 17 and its result was declared on Sunday along with three other states. The BJP registered a comprehensive victory in the state by winning 163 seats while the Congress party came a distant second after winning 66 seats in the state.
