New Delhi [India], October 7 : BJP President JP Nadda held a meeting with the Jharkhand BJP unit on Monday to discuss the candidate selection for the upcoming Assembly elections.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and key Jharkhand leaders, including Union Ministers Sanjay Seth, Annapurna Devi, state president Babulal Marandi, former Union Minister Arjun Munda, and others were also present.
The state unit has prepared a list of three potential candidates for each constituency.
During the meeting at Nadda's residence in Delhi, one candidate from each list is expected to be finalized, sources said.
However, the final decision on the candidates will be confirmed only after the Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting, they added.
A senior BJP leader told ANI, "The party is likely to allocate nine seats to the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), two to the Janata Dal (United) (JDU), and one to the Lok Janshakti Party. On all 28 tribal-dominated seats, the party will field tribal candidates."
Sources also said that the party is likely to secure more than 35 seats out of the 53 non-tribal constituencies. The BJP leadership believes that Champai Soren has strong influence over 14 seats and is confident of winning at least seven seats surrounding the Kolhan belt.
The BJP source claimed that the central government's "Gogo Didi" scheme in Jharkhand is receiving a positive response from women voters.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, leveraging his experience with the successful "Ladli Bahna" scheme in Madhya Pradesh, plays a key role in this initiative. His involvement is expected to boost the BJP's prospects in the upcoming polls.
Assam CM Sarma, who is BJP's state election co-in-charge, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan are working together to connect with party workers and boost their morale.
According to the BJP, the paper leak issue in Jharkhand is likely to cause a major setback for the Jharkhand government.
Earlier Shivraj Singh Chauhan told ANI that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be implemented in Jharkhand to identify and deport foreign infiltrators. The BJP's detailed vision document for Jharkhand will be released soon. He had said that this election is not just about forming a government but about "saving Jharkhand."
"We pledge to protect our daughters, land, and livelihood (Beti, Mati, aur Roti)," he added.
