New Delhi [India], May 14 : BJP leader Arvinder Singh Lovely, who recently resigned from the Delhi Congress president's post, strongly condemned the alleged incident in which former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal was assaulted by a personal assistant to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and asked AAP how they can guarantee of the nation if their party MP was not safe in their own homes.
Speaking to ANI, the BJP leader said, "If this incident has happened and Swati Maliwal has been treated like this, then it is condemnable and shameful. This is not the first incident... Those who talk about giving guarantees to the whole country cannot guarantee women's safety in their own homes. This raises questions on the administration."
Slamming CM Kejriwal, Lovely further said, "This is a very strange alliance... They gave a guarantee without discussing it with other alliance partners. They are misleading people only...."
Earlier on May 13, the National Commission for Women (NCW) took action against the alleged assault of Aam Aadmi Party MP Swati Maliwal by the Chief Minister's aide.
The NCW said that an inquiry team will be sent to look into the alleged incident, adding that a formal letter will be sent to the Delhi Police to submit an action taken report in three days.
In a post on X, NCW said, "MP Rajya Sabha Swati Maliwal reportedly assaulted at the Delhi CM's residence. The National Commission for Women (NCW) vows action, demanding justice from Delhi Police and sending an inquiry team. Perpetrators must be held accountable. NCW will be sending a formal letter to Delhi Police to send an ATR in this matter in 3 days."
Delhi police earlier said that no complaint has been received in connection with the alleged assault against Aam Aadmi Party MP Swati Maliwal at the Chief Minister's residence.
However, the BJP came down heavily on the AAP and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal following the alleged incident against his party legislator at his official residence.
"AAP RS MP and former DCW chief Swati Maliwal alleges that Delhi CM's PA assaulted her. A call was made from Delhi CM's House. Remember, Swati Maliwal had maintained radio silence on Kejriwal's arrest. She was not even in India at that time and didn't return for a long time," BJP leader Amit Malviya said in a post on X.
BJP leader Bansuri Swaraj condemned the alleged incident and questioned the Delhi CM about his guarantee of women's safety in the national capital.
"We got shameful news today that, after getting instigated by Arvind Kejriwal, his OSD has beaten and misbehaved with one of their party MP Swati Maliwal. She also made a call to the Delhi Police with a complaint regarding the same. The incident took place in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at his residence. The BJP strongly condemns this incident," Bansuri Swaraj said while addressing a press conference in Delhi on Monday.
