BJP leaders laud Cabinet decision on One Nation, One Election, say its implementation will increase pace of development

New Delhi [India], September 18 : Bharatiya Janata Party leaders on Wednesday lauded the union cabinet's decision on One Nation, One Election and said the implementation of the proposal will lead to faster pace of development.
The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the government's 'One Nation, One Election' proposal which proposes simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, with urban body and panchayat polls to be held within 100 days.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh said there was One Nation, One Election in the country for several years after Independence.
He said the High-Level Committee, which has proposed One Nation, One Election, held extensive consultations.
"Today finally the cabinet has approved the recommendations... One nation one election is needed for the development of the country. Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi should tell whether One Nation, One Election was in place before 1966," Giriraj Singh asked.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini congratulated Prime Minister Modi and said that the One Nation, One Election will increase the speed of development in the country.
"I congratulate PM Modi on this...This will not only reduce expenditure but also increase the speed of development in the country," Saini said.
Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra said that One Nation, One Election is not just the dream of PM Modi but of crores of Indians.
"It is the most historic day. One Nation, One Election is not just the dream of PM Modi, crores of Indians dreamt of this. This will not only save time, it will also save thousands of crores of rupees because elections go on throughout the year," Vijayendra said.
BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said that PM Modi has implemented the vision of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar.
"When the Constitution came into force, elections initially happened as One Nation, One Election...The people of India are giving a thumbs up to the Cabinet approving the 'One Nation, One Election'," Bhandari said.
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has accepted the recommendations of the High-Level Committee on Simultaneous Elections under the chairmanship of former President Shri Ram Nath Kovind.
The government said that the report, comprising 18,626 pages, is an outcome of extensive consultations with stakeholders, experts, and research work over 191 days, since the constitution of the High-Level Committee on September 2, 2023.
