Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 31 : Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Nand Kishor Gurjar on Wednesday questioned the caste of Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, alleging that he is the "grandson of Feroze Khan and his mother is a Christian."
His remarks came a day after BJP MP Anurag Thakur and Rahul Gandhi exchanged words over the issue of caste census in the Lok Sabha during the discussion on the Union Budget on Tuesday.
"They think that the increase in their number of seats is due to Rahul Gandhi...Spreading communalism is in their nature. They did not say anything about development during their entire election campaign. People have understood this, and the illusion has now broken," Gurjar told ANI.
He also questioned the Hindu credentials of Rahul Gandhi and demanded that his membership be scrapped.
The BJP MLA added, "I would like to ask Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav: tell us the caste of Rahul Gandhi. What would the grandson of Feroze Khan be?"
"I have written to the Lok Sabha earlier too. How can he be Hindu? He has given false details, so his membership should be scrapped. He is the grandson of Feroze Khan, and his mother is a Christian," he alleged.
The BJP MLA further stated that there should be a caste census in the country and that they were not against it.
"There should be a caste census; we are not against it. But if someone like Rahul Gandhi speaks about caste...He has no caste," he added.
The exchange began on Tuesday when Anurag Thakur entered into a heated argument with Rahul Gandhi during his speech in the Lower House of Parliament, saying that those whose caste is not known are asking for a caste census.
"He (Rahul Gandhi) talks about OBC, he talks about the census, those whose caste is not known are asking for the caste census."
Thakur further added, "In this parliament, former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi protested against giving reservations to OBCs."
LoP Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Hamirpur MP, saying, "You can insult me every day, but keep in mind that the caste census will be passed here (Lok Sabha) one day."
