Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh) [India], August 5 : The BJP MLC of the Agra Graduates constituency of Uttar Pradesh, Manvendra Pratap Singh, on Sunday, August 4 wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding action against the decision of the History Department of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) of introducing the History of Islam subjects in their course for this year.
This was after the Department of History of AMU introduced the History of Islam from the period of pre-Islamic Arabia to the Pious caliphate (661 AD) in the first year and the History of Islam from the period of the Umayyads (661 AD) to Abbasids (833 AD) for the second year in their Four-Year Undergraduate course for the 2024-2025 sessions as compulsory subjects.
Manvendra Pratap Singh said that it was a very serious matter and the work done by Aligarh Muslim University to adopt an Islamic education policy in place of the National Education Policy is unfortunate.
"...Aligarh Muslim University is a university run by the Central Government, thus the history of Sikhism, Jainism, Hinduism is not being taught in the curriculum of any university, but teaching it in Aligarh Muslim University is absolutely wrong and will give birth to wrong tradition," he said in his letter.
He further mentioned that this would give a blow to the ambitious plan of the National Education Policy of the Government of India and therefore requested Prime Minister Modi to stop the teaching of Islamic history in the course and instead teach the history of India.
"This will also give a blow to the ambitious plan of the National Education Policy of the Government of India...Therefore, instead of their religious format, India's glorious history should be taught according to national education policy and arrangements should be made to teach according to the policy, and teaching of Islamic History should be banned," he mentioned in the letter.
