New Delhi [India], August 19 : BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj tied Rakhi to Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on the occasion of Rakshabandhan on Monday.
Swaraj said that Raksha Bandhan is a festival of unbreakable trust and affection between brothers and sisters.
"On this Raksha Bandhan, I appeal to all the sons of India that you should take a pledge to protect not only those sisters who tie a Rakhi to you but also those sisters who are someone else's daughters, who are the pride of someone else's home, who are the dream of their parents," Swaraj told ANI.
Sachdeva told ANI that according to Indian culture and religion, the festival of Raksha Bandhan is about a brother promising to protect his sister.
"It also shows how strong our roots are. Raksha Bandhan is also mentioned in the Mahabharata era. When Yudhishthira was going to war, Lord Krishna said, 'Tie a Raksha Sutra to all the soldiers and you will win'," he said.
Earlier today, Rajnath Singh also celebrated Raksha Bandhan with Usha Rana from Rashtriya Sainik Sansthan and students from Samvid Gurukulam Girls Sainik School at his residence.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted people on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and prayed for everyone's happiness and prosperity.
"Best wishes to all countrymen on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, a festival symbolising the immense love between brother and sister. May this holy festival bring new sweetness to the relationships of all of you and happiness, prosperity and good fortune in life," PM Modi posted on X.
President Droupadi Murmu also extended greetings on the festival that celebrates the bond between siblings.In a post on X, President Droupadi Murmu said, "On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, I extend my heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all the countrymen. This festival, based on the feeling of love and mutual trust between brothers and sisters, instills a feeling of affection and respect towards all sisters and daughters."
Raksha Bandhan, commonly known as Rakhi, is a traditional Hindu festival dedicated to the love and bond between brothers and sisters.On this day, sisters tie a rakhi around their brothers' wrists. In return, brothers offer gifts as a symbol of love and care for their sisters.
