"BJP waiting for a Kolkata-like incident in Delhi": AAP's Sanjay Singh slams LG VK Saxena
Oct 12, 2024
New Delhi [India], October 12 : Launching a scathing attack against Bharatiya Janata Party and Delhi L-G VK Saxena, Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh on Saturday alleged that BJP is awaiting a Kolkata-like incident to unfold in Delhi.
As per Singh, for the past one and a half years, a female doctor in Delhi has been subjected to sexual harassment, and despite repeated complaints, no action has been taken against the Medical Superintendent (MS) responsible. "Instead, an investigation has been launched against the victim," he said.
"Despite the internal inquiry confirming the abuse, no action has been taken, prompting the AAP to demand answers from the BJP and PM Modi. Is the LG's role to shield those who exploit women?" Sanjay Singh pointed out.
Highlighting how shocking it is, he said that perhaps this is why PM Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have given the LG the authority to transfer, post, and take action so that those who harass women can be protected. This is exactly what Delhi's LG is doing.
"A female doctor at a Delhi government hospital has faced ongoing sexual harassment from her MS. Despite this, the LG and the officials from the Health Department, who received the complaint, did not take any action. The doctor complained against MS," added the AAP MP.
"She tried to meet Delhi's Health Secretary, Deepak Kumar, dozens of times to complain about the same," further added Sanjay Singh. He said that in October 2023, she filed her complaint, and it took four months of suffering indignities before an internal committee was finally formed, with the Health Secretary repeatedly refusing to meet her.
The AAP leader stated that the MS, against whom an FIR should have been filed and who should have been arrested, faced no action. It took four long months to set up an internal committee to investigate the case, and even then, by March, they had started investigating the same woman who had provided all the evidence against the MS.
Highlighting how much of a mental torture it was on the complainant, Sanjay Singh further stated, "The woman doctor, however, did not bow down. She presented all the proof to the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), and by May 2024, all her accusations against the MS for sexually harassing her were found to be true. That MS should have been arrested and an FIR must have been filed. But instead of arresting the MS, Delhi's LG, appointed by the PM to protect such people, took no action even till today."
Angry at the handling of this case, the AAP MP said, "I want to ask the BJP and PM Modi if they have granted their LG the authority to transfer and post officials so that they can protect those who harass women. Is that why Deepak Kumar is the Health Secretary so that women doctors' complaints go unheard for months? So that he can launch an investigation on the complainant?"
Sanjay Singh said to the LG, "Do you want to repeat the Kolkata incident in Delhi? Are you waiting for a similar case in Delhi? The MS, who has been accused by not one, but many female doctors, is being protected by the LG and the Health Secretary. These are the people the BJP, the Prime Minister, and Amit Shah have appointed here."
The senior AAP leader further said that not only that but all Supreme Court rules were blown up. When the female doctor complained, she was transferred, and it was written in her transfer order that she was being transferred because she accused her MS of sexual harassment. This publicly humiliated her, as everyone in the new hospital knew her as the doctor who had faced sexual harassment.
Shocked at the depth of this case, Sanjay Singh said, "For such a long time, the MS had been harassing a female doctor at the hospital. Deepak Kumar, the Health Secretary, should be fired. The MS, whose actions have been proven true, should be arrested immediately. And if Delhi's LG has even a shred of morality, he should resign from his position."
"How did the LG stay silent for a year on cases of female doctors being harassed? Does the LG want to repeat Kolkata in Delhi? The LG, the BJP, and the PM who appointed him must answer for this," he concluded.
Meanwhile, countering Sanjay Singh over the same issue, the L-G said, "In a lame attempt to shift focus from the horrific RG Kar Medical College tragedy, AAP MP Sanjay Singh is defending his leader Arvind Kejriwal, and the current Delhi CM, Atishi. If at all someone is to be blamed for inaction against the doctor charged with sexual misconduct, it is the then CM Arvind Kejriwal, Press Conference Minister, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and the current CM Atishi."
The health department had moved to shift out the MS in question in November 2023 itself for a decision by the NCCSA under the CM. The proposal has been pending with NCCSA since December 2023. The then CM did not take any decision on it till March 2024 even when he was released on bail. The proposal is again awaiting the decision of NCCSA.
"The lady doctor in question was transferred to her place of choice after a discussion with her and ICC recommendations. Now to blame that she has been transferred vindictively is absurd. There are any investigations against the female doctor is also a blatant lie. It is to be noted that the health department not only submitted a proposal for his transfer but has also been running pillar to post to fill up the posts of DGHS and Medical directors of 16 other hospitals. In the entire country, Delhi must be the only state that hasn't had a regular DGHS for more than a year. 16 hospitals do not have a regular medical director including GTB which recently faced some serious security lapses," he added.
"It is reiterated that the NCCSA is the sole authority to initiate and take action against the Doctor/MS in question and all other issues mentioned above and the proposal for all such effects have been pending with NCCSA since December 2023. Sanjay Singh should ask Arvind Kejriwal as to why he didn't take action and ask Atishi to do so," the L-G stated.
