New Delhi [India], May 19 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Manoj Tiwari on Sunday came down heavily on Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal, questioned his silence on the alleged assault case of Swati Maliwal and targeted him for protecting the person who misbehaved with Maliwal.
Addressing a press conference, Manoj Tiwari said, "Arvind Kejriwal is protesting to save a person who has misbehaved with a woman at his residence... The same man earlier talked about women's safety but today, Arvind Kejriwal is protesting to save the man who hit a woman..."
Asking questions from the Chief Minister, Tiwari said, "Now, the people as well as Delhi want to know what happened with Swati Maliwal at the residence of Arvind Kejriwal. They want to know why Arvind Kejriwal is not speaking anything on the matter of Swati Maliwal. Why Arvind Kejriwal is not speaking anything against Bibhav Kumar? Why is he trying to save him? He (Bibhav Kumar) has misbehaved with a woman."
Claiming that a big conspiracy is involved, Tiwari said, "He has also destroyed the CCTV footage, why? Such a big conspiracy has been done... I think that this is the nature of Arvind Kejriwal. Because in the initial days of his career, there were allegations against him of killing Santosh Koli (AAP member)."
Tiwari added further, "As an MP and BJP member, my heart shudders to think how bad is their mindset. They are protesting for the person who beat a woman. Today, every person in Delhi is shocked. In such case..."
Meanwhile, BJP leader Shazia Ilmi also criticised AAP and said, "Aam Aadmi Party should be named as Aam Apradhi Party and Bhibhav Kumar has become the Shahjahan Sheikh of Delhi. Bhibhv has misbehaved with a person who supported their party for so long... She was there for the party... Sanjay Singh said that the incident took place and action will be taken. What kind of action has been taken? The person who is a culprit is out, roaming free..."
Earlier, on Saturday, Kejriwal's personal aide, Bibhav Kumar, was arrested for the alleged assault on the AAP Rajya Sabha MP, Swati Maliwal.
Maliwal, in her complaint, alleged that Bibhav "slapped" her "at least seven to eight times" while she "continued screaming" and "brutally dragged" her while "kicking" her in her "chest, stomach and pelvis area."
After his arrest, Bibhav was produced before Delhi's Tis Hazari Court, which remanded him in police custody for five days.
The former aide of the AAP supremo earlier emailed Delhi Police, stating that he was ready to cooperate in the ongoing probe into Maliwal's assault claim while adding that they should also take cognizance of his complaint.
Bibhav lodged a counter-complaint with the police on Friday, accusing Maliwal of gaining 'unauthorised entry' into the CM's Civil Lines residence and 'verbally abusing' him.
In his complaint, Kejriwal's former PA charged Maliwal with unauthorised entry, verbal abuse, and threats while also claiming the BJP's involvement in the matter.
