BJP's Taranjit Singh Sandhu welcomes exit poll predictions, says 'PM Modi coming back with huge majority'

Amritsar (Punjab) [India], June 1 : Former Indian envoy and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Amritsar parliamentary seat in Punjab, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, has welcomed the predictions made by various exit polls regarding the Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP candidate affirmed confidence that he will come out victorious from the seat.
Speaking to ANI, Sandhu said, "According to me, the earlier predictions have been sustained. The development that has happened under BJP...These predictions of exit poll, say that PM Modi's govt is coming back with a huge majority."
"I am confident that the people of Amritsar have supported the BJP and the party candidate will win from here," he added.
Sandhu is facing a multi-cornered contest in his seat. Congress' Gurjeet Singh Aujla, AAP's Kuldeep Singh and Anil Joshi of Shiromani Akali Dal are also in the fray from the Amritsar constituency.
Sandhu, previously served as the Indian Ambassador to the US. He is one of the most experienced Indian diplomats in US affairs, having served in the Indian Mission in Washington, DC, twice earlier.
NDA is expected to make gains in Punjab, while the INDIA bloc is predicted to be the dominating force in the state, as per the exit polls.
Axis My India has predicted 7-9 seats for INDIA bloc and 2-4 seats for NDA. News 18 has predicted a major win for the INDIA bloc in the state with 8-10 seats, while NDA is expected to win 2-4 seats. Today's Chanakya (by News 24) has predicted four seats for both NDA and INDIA.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance is poised to retain power at the Centre with a thumping majority and register its third straight win in the Lok Sabha polls, according to the exit polls.
The exit polls predicted that the ruling BJP-led NDA is poised to improve its performance over its 2019 record when it won 352 seats. Two polls predicted the BJP also improving its numbers from the 303 seats it won in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
Lok Sabha elections were held in seven phases from April 19 with Prime Minister Narendra Modi steering the BJP campaign. Votes will be counted on June 4.
The exit poll outcome was declared after the conclusion of polling for the seventh and final phase of Lok Sabha polls on Saturday.
