Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], May 3 : Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday took a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over contesting election from the legacy seat of the Gandhi family, Raebareli constituency in Uttar Pradesh stating that the latter is going to lose from there too.
The Congress party earlier today announced Rahul Gandhi's candidature from Raebareli ending all speculations about All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra contesting from this seat.
"Earlier, the Congress was not able to decide what to do. Rahul Gandhi had run away to Kerala (Wayanad) after losing from Amethi last time. Assuming the possibility of defeat from Wayanad, he first kept his mind on Amethi. But the work done by Union Minister Smriti Irani for five years. I have just returned from there and I myself was present for the nomination of Irani there. The atmosphere of UP has become Modi-May. We are going to break the previous record too," CM Yadav said.
The MP CM further said that the public of the Raebareli was also waiting for him and Rahul Gandhi would lose from there.
"He (Rahul Gandhi) is going to contest from Raebareli instead of Amethi, so the people of Raebareli are waiting for him. Congress will have to answer for all the obstacles it created in the development and all the negative things they said about PM Modi. Certainly Rahul Gandhi is going to lose from Rae Bareli as well," the CM said.
Meanwhile, the chief minister also took a dig at AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi saying she ran away from the election battlefield.
"Priyanka ji ran away from the battlefield even before the election battle started," he added.
Rahul is pitted against Congress defector and three-time MLC Dinesh Pratap Singh in Raebareli. A sitting MP from Kerala's Wayanad, he is also seeking a fresh term in the Lower House from the seat that polled in Phase 2 of the general elections on April 26.
Raebareli constituency was held by Congress leader Sonia Gandhi who resigned as the sitting Raebareli MP earlier and was elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan.
Before Sonia, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had won Raebareli thrice. The constituency also elected Indira's husband and Congress leader Feroze Gandhi twice in 1952 and 1957.
The Congress party has also named Kishori Lal Sharma, a party loyalist from Amethi, the seat Rahul Gandhi lost in the 2019 general elections to BJP leader Smriti Irani.
