Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh) [India], November 11 : In controversial remarks in the run-up to crucial bypolls in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party leader Rajpal Kashyap alleged that women were not safe in BJP rule in Uttar Pradesh and that the party wants to win elections even if "sisters, daughters are disrobed of their saree".
Rajpal Kashyap, who campaigned in Meerapur Assembly constituency ahead of bypoll scheduled for November 20, also resorted to personalised attacks and said "people who do not have a family cannot understand pain of families"
He alleged that women had been seeking justice from the Uttar Pradesh government over the atrocities faced by them but many "died by suicide".
He referred to the case of two minor Dalit sisters having been hanged after being raped in Lakhimpur Kheri in 2021. A special court had convicted four of the six accused in the case in 2023.
"What will they tell, ye to Loktantra mein behn beti..., inko chunav jeetna hai, chahe behn, beti ki saree bhi kholni pade, tab bhi chunav jeetna hai (they have to win election, even if saree of sisters, daughters have to be taken off, even then they have to win election," he said.
Kashyap alleged that people from BJP "can't understand the pain of daughters and sisters".
"People who do not have a family cannot understand the pain of families. Chanakya had said that the king should be the one who has a family. That's why they don't know the prices of salt and oil. Inflation is high. Educated people can't find jobs . There was scam in recruitment of teachers. They are not restoring old pension scheme," he alleged.
He also targeted the BJP over Agniveer scheme.
On Yogi Adiyanath's remarks that Samajwadi Party was "production house of criminals," he said that it was not the language of Chief Minister but of "sadak chap log".
"This is not language of someone who took the oath of Constitution," he said.
He also alleged that BJP has "most number of goons, rapists".
Kashyap took a dig at BJP over its losing the Faizabad seat, which includes Ayodhya, in the Lok Sabha polls and added that people were determined to protect the Constitution.
Bypolls will be held on nine seats in Uttar Pradesh on November 20 and results will be declared on November 23.
